Kyocera printer drivers: get the right one first time

Download it free from Kyocera’s own site, then follow the steps for Windows or Mac.

Where to download the official Kyocera driver

Kyocera printer drivers are a free download from Kyocera’s own Download and Support page, sorted by country, model and operating system.

A driver is the small program that lets your computer talk to the printer.

Get the driver there, not from a driver download site.

It costs nothing.

Some of those sites push their own updater software before you reach the actual file.

  1. Open Kyocera’s Download and Support page and choose Driver, Utility and Manual Downloads.

  2. Pick your country, then your exact model.

  3. Choose your computer’s operating system, such as Windows 11 or macOS.

  4. Download the driver package it recommends.

The model name is printed on the front of the machine, so read it off before you start.

Which Kyocera driver do you need?

Kyocera offers a few different drivers, and each one does a different job.

Most offices only need the first.

  • Printing from WindowsMost offices

    KX Driver

This is Kyocera’s main print driver for Windows.

The Kyocera installer lists it for your machine when you choose Express Install.

  • Printing from a MacmacOS

    Mac print driver

Kyocera publishes a separate driver package for Macs.

Once it is installed, the Mac adds the printer with a KPDL driver, which uses Kyocera’s own printing language.

  • Scanning into an appWindows software

    TWAIN driver

This lets scan software on your computer pull pages straight from the machine.

You only need it for that job, because scan to email and scan to folder work without it.

How to install a Kyocera driver on Windows

These steps follow Kyocera Australia’s own Windows install guide.

  1. Open your Downloads folder in File Explorer.

  2. Right click the driver zip file, which is the compressed download, and choose Extract All.

  3. Pick a folder to save the files in.

  4. Open that folder and run Setup, then click Yes when Windows asks for permission.

  5. In the Kyocera Product Library, click Accept, then OK.

  6. Choose Express Install and click your machine in the list.

  7. Check that KX Driver is ticked, then click Install.

  8. Answer the question about sharing data, let the install finish, then print a test page.

Nothing came out?

Open Printing Preferences and check the settings match what the machine offers.

How to install a Kyocera driver on a Mac

These steps follow Kyocera Australia’s Mac install guide.

  1. Download the Mac print driver from Kyocera’s download centre.

  2. Open the package and install it on your Mac.

  3. Go to Printers and Scanners in System Settings and add a printer.

  4. Choose the IP tab, then Line Printer Daemon, known as LPD, which is a standard way to send print jobs over a network.

  5. Type the machine’s IP address, which is its number on your office network.

  6. The KPDL driver for your model should then appear.

  7. Give the printer a name you will recognise, click Add, then print a test page.

Not sure of the IP address?

Ask whoever looks after your network before you guess at it.

When the driver still will not work

Most driver problems come down to one of four things, and most can be sorted at your desk.

  • Windows says the driver is unavailable

Remove the printer from Windows, then install it again from the Kyocera package.

A Windows update can leave the old driver behind, and a clean reinstall usually clears it.

  • The machine is not in the list

Check the computer and the printer are on the same office network.

Then run the installer again so it can find the machine.

  • It prints, but the options are missing

The finisher, extra trays or colour may not be switched on in the driver.

Open the printer properties and set the options to match your machine.

  • It asks for an admin login

Some settings are locked behind the machine’s administrator account.

Our guide to the Kyocera administrator login shows where to find yours.
